When Spanish speaking customers flock to a restaurant you have my attention. Virtually everyone in the restaurant, employees included, spoke Spanish. What GREAT service!Īnother testament to the greatness of the tacos here is the clientele. During my meal a man made the rounds to every table asking if everything was to their liking or did they need anything. An employee came up from the back to ask her a question, she looked me in the eye, smiled, said hello and welcome before asking her question. She thanked me for asking and shared how her day was going. They are you and me with just the nicest demeanor. They are not dressed up in fancy clothes. I'd stack these employees up against a five star restaurant any day. This place has some of the best employees anywhere. I can eat anywhere with great food and employees. I might even call it a dive, and I say that with all the love in the world. The restaurant itself is nothing special. The corn tortillas have great flavor right along with the meat and onions. The flavors in their carnitas is awesome. They make all their tacos using fresh ingredients and it shows. It's restaurant quality food that is ordered up front. Tripadvisor has them listed as Fast Food Mexican, but I'm not sure I agree with that label. Tacos Y Mas's beginning is a modest portable grill and tent in front of a grocery store in Dallas. The highest level and care and love will always determine the best. I also believe freshness is a source of great pride in Mexican cuisine. Freshness is the single most important defining characteristic of a great taco. I got one problem: My grill chef, Arturo Cob, is from the Yucatan and he makes the very best tacos and salsas in the metroplex. Of course, when I am totally jonesing for tacos, nothing beats running on the line and banging out some one-off tacos extravaganza, my guys call in a "Jon-nado." If I am in Addison, it's Torchy's on Beltline. If I'm in Oak Cliff, it's El Si Hay - always get the pork pastor. They do awesome barbacoa tacos with fresh-made tortillas, your choice of corn or flour. My favorite tacos in town are probably Taquería Lupita, but I've never had them sober so I could be wrong. Everything is authentic, just like in Mexico City including the sauces and garnishes. They have the best cow's tongue and barbacoa I've ever had. I go to a little place called Tacos y Mas off of Interstate 30 and Dolphin Road. But for the more gourmet ones, I prefer Good to Go. When I want traditional street tacos I head to Fuel City or Tacos y Mas for the authentic recipes you'd find on a street corner in Mexico. They were cheap and small and we would order them by the boatload after band rehearsals in downtown Dallas.
